Regenerating Australia community screening in Meeniyan

Updated: Jun 24, 2022

What a great day we had at the recent film screening of Damon Gameau's newest film 'Regenerating Australia' which is a 17 min film looking into the future, exploring "what Australia would look like if we listened to the needs of its people".

Wow, what an inspiring afternoon with over 100 people coming from all across Gippsland. There was such a positive vibe in the room and it was just so great to see people come together after not being able to do these sort of gatherings for over 2 years.

We absolutely loved having Tess Rooker (Prom Coast Mums), Alysson Skinner (Manager at Venus Bay Community Centre), Darren McCubbin (CEO at Community Power Hub and Gippsland Climate Change Network) and Tony Wolfe (coal worker advocating for renewables and a community-led transition; Vice Chair at Gippsland Climate Change Network) as our panellists and could not have asked for a better crowd.

We received lots of feedback after the event from people saying how inspiring the stories of our panellists were and how much they enjoyed hearing about all the different projects combating climate change underway in our area. People also enjoyed the opportunity to casually chat to the panellists and other community members in the room after the official part had finished.

Even our littlest had a fun afternoon too playing dress ups, colouring in some wild animals and designing their own shirts to take home. If any of the parents are reading this, we'd love to see some pictures of the end result!

Here some of the terrific feedback we've received after the event:

'Such a brilliant event today! The kids LOVED designing the t-shirts. The film and panel were fantastic!'

'What a great event! So inspiring! Thanks for organising it.'

Congratulations on the fabulous turnout today! I went to Damon's film screening in my area with Damon present and they didn't have as many people!

Thanks so much. You must have been very happy with the event: it was great to see Tony etc. having to get more and more banks of chairs out of the storeroom! Congratulations on the great work you're doing!

'Was really great! Thanks for the great event!'

Thanks so much! It was a really wonderful event! Thank you so much for pulling it all together and for inviting me. Hope to cross paths with you again soon. Many thanks!

Thank you for asking me. Enjoyed the day and the positive vibes all around.

I sincerely enjoyed the opportunity to speak candidly about my passion for a better future. I'm so impressed with how well organised your group is and had some fantastic chats afterwards. Well done on organising a very successful gathering.
